Property:
It is a colourless rhombohedral crystal or white powder. Soluble in water, liquid ammonia and glycerol. Insoluble in anhydrous ethanol and ether.
The Advantages of Potassium Nitrate:
Potassium nitrate is a non-chlorinated nitrogen and potassium compound fertiliser with high solubility, and its active ingredients, nitrogen and potassium, can be rapidly absorbed by crops without chemical residues. As a fertiliser, it is suitable for vegetables, fruits and flowers, as well as some chlorine-sensitive crops (e.g. potatoes, strawberries, beans, cabbage, lettuce, peanuts, carrots, onions, blueberries, tobacco, apricots, grapefruit and avocados).
Potassium nitrate is used in the manufacture of black powder, such as mining powder, fuse, and firecrackers. It is also used in fireworks to produce purple sparks.
Used in the pharmaceutical industry for the production of penicillin potassium salt, rifampicin and other drugs. Used in the manufacture of cigarette paper. Used as catalyst. Mineral processing agent.
Used as compound fertiliser for crops and flowers.
Potassium nitrate is also a permitted colouring agent in China. It reduces to potassium nitrite in meat products due to the action of bacteria and plays the role of colour protection and bacterial inhibition. It can be used in meat products with a maximum use level of 0.5 g/kg and a residual level of no more than 0.03 g/kg.
Industrial potassium nitrate is also widely used in the production of tempered glass.
